Our first report from Madrid!

Our flight to Madrid was a bumpy one, but the weather forecast this morning made it all better. We love Madrid!

Spanish weather forecast... hahaha!

Today (Monday) was mostly a day of waiting and exploring. We got to the press centre early in the morning just to stand in line for an hour and a half to get our press accreditation. Funny to see that ZDF (German television) and Radio Maria (worldwide broadcasts) were in the same line as us. Thankfully we got our press cards, so ready to roll!

Waiting in line...
Got them!

This afternoon we came upon many preparations for the opening Mass that will take place tomorrow evening at 20:00h at Plaza de Cibeles. TV-vans, lights, camera's, the choir stand, the big stage... it's almost ready.

Pilgrims are arriving every hour from all corners of the world, and some are happy to pose for a group picture!

Our friends from Zimbabwe!

And for those looking for WYD merchandise, there's enough for everyone all over town, including hats, fans, T-shirts, pins, scarves, you name it and they've got it! Even the metro has huge posters about meeting the Pope...

Our last bit of work for today will be to test drive to Plaza de Jesus, where the Dutch catechesis will take place on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

So far so good!

Diahann and Annemarie
