Ready to go to World Youth Day!

Welcome to the World Youth Day blog of Tilburg School of Catholic Theology! Our bloggers are Diahann, who is communication advisor, and Annemarie (writing this post), who is the international officer of the School. Both of us will be blogging in Madrid during World Youth Day 2011.

World Youth Day is a massive event, the size of the Olympics. Madrid expects 400.000 young pilgrims in the city for its Youth Festival, with 1.2 million expected for the final weekend which will be attended by Pope Benedict. Our job is to represent Tilburg University and in particular its theology programs.

So much for this official introduction! Let's get down to the reality of final preparations. Rather than having a day off (I wish...) I am working like mad to get the last bit of work done. I have confiscated the desk opposite mine to stack my posters, flyers, brochures, tape and of course the hats and mini-clogs.

Hats and mini-clogs? That's right! All Dutch participants will get a free hat to stand out in the crowd. It's a white cowboy hat with a ribbon in the Durch tricolor that carries the name of Tilburg University and the School of Catholic Theology. To top it off, there is an orange whistle attached to the hat cord. The Dutchies will not just be seen, they will also be heard!

For the international pilgrims that we will meet, we have white mini-clogs carrying the logo of Tilburg University. Not as big as the hats, but easy to carry with you, attached to your backpack or mobile phone. And that's not all. Each hat and clog carries a unique code with which pilgrims can win fantastic prizes, including a trip to the Netherlands and a visit to Tilburg University campus if you're from abroad.

Diahann and I will blog as often as we can to keep you posted about our experiences during World Youth Day. We expect to see our hats and clogs EVERYWHERE!
And if you would like to comment on our blog, please do so. We love to share our thoughts, but it's even better if you feel inspired to share YOUR thoughts and post a comment below!
